MTN Business simplified networks with SD-WAN

MTN is launching an SD-WAN (software defined networking in a wide area network) service for new and existing enterprise customers, starting this week.

MTN Business has announced it has rolled out an SD-WAN (software-defined networking in a wide area network) to existing and new enterprise customers, from 25 November 2019.

Traditionally, wide area networks (WANs) have allowed companies to extend their computer networks over large distances – to connect branches or remote offices to data centres, and to each other – delivering applications and services needed to perform various business functions.

The increased uptake of WAN services by businesses over time has resulted in some challenges, including network congestion and service outages.  Bandwidth requirements have also increased due to the development of more advanced applications, like high-definition video, placing WANs under even more pressure.

SD-WAN was developed to address these network problems, and to enable businesses to run their businesses more efficiently.

MTN’s SD-WAN solution allows businesses to leverage any combination of connectivity services, including multiprotocol label switching (MPLS), broadband or wireless LTE, to securely connect the users on their networks to relevant applications.

Business owners and managers can benefit in several ways when using MTN Business’s SD-WAN network.  At its core, this offering is about building higher-performing wide area networks (WANs), using lower-cost and commercially-available internet access. It also allows businesses to switch between available connectivity options, and to mix-and-match them based on bandwidth availability.

The solution gives customers increased flexibility by allowing them to scale connectivity, up or down, to cater for peak and off-peak demand.

Says Sudipto Moitra, general manager for ICT at MTN Business: “The advantages of SD-WAN are undeniable. Traditional wide area networks — based on MPLS — simply cannot cope with the exponential increase in bandwidth, cloud connectivity optimisation, and enhanced security needed to deliver against the increased data demands required by businesses today. In as much as other advances in technology have enabled entirely new ways of doing business, SD-WAN is a major plus for organisations wanting to do more with less, and those seeking to transform how they do business.

“The availability of our SD-WAN solution is good news for our enterprise customers as it will substantially lower WAN costs, reduce deployment times, offer application resiliency and provide robust security. Coupled with MTN’s superior network performance, we are confident that our SD-WAN offering will go a long way towards exceeding the connectivity needs of our customers, and help them simplify the management of their networks.”

MTN Business says it will roll out its SD-WAN offering in staggered phases, starting with the entry level solution, and building onto this with new value-added services over time.

Acer launches two new 4K monitors

Acer has launched two monitors for higher-end consumers who use their home computers for gaming and graphically-intensive work.

Published

on

Acer has unveiled two new monitors, CB342CKC and CB282K, which form part of its high specification range of 4K monitors.

The monitors feature In-Plane Switching ZeroFrame technology, which removes the bezel to give seamless visuals. The sharp 4K UHD display is 16:9 up to 3840X2160 high resolution.

Vesa DisplayHDR creates deeper levels of black and white contrast, giving a greater immersion through realistic image recreation. Brighter scenes glimmer with detail, while in darker scenes, details typically hidden in the shadows are enhanced for greater overall luminance.

With Radeon FreeSync, a game’s frame rate is determined by the graphics card, not the fixed refresh rate of the monitor, which eliminates screen tearing and delivers very smooth gaming experiences. The Acer CB342CKC monitor also features 1ms Visual Response Boost (VRB), which results in a much clearer and less noticeable blur in fast-moving images.

The Acer CB342CKC monitor features a USB 3.1 Type-C port that can plug into smartphones, tablets or laptops. This provides the device that’s plugged in with data transfer and device charging capabilities, while it mirrors the display, with a single cable.

With a firm, stainless steel base, monitors can easily tilt, pivot and swivel to make height adjustments without a hassle. A quick-release design means the monitor can be separated from its stand so it can be VESA wall-mounted. Both Acer CB2 monitors also feature Acer Display Widget utility software. The split-screen feature is able to divide the screen into several regions. Users can quickly split the window with a hotkey or via the split-screen setting menu, making the workspace as clean as possible.

The Acer CB342CKC monitor will be available in EMEA in May starting at €549, while the CB282K monitor will be available in April starting at €399.
