Cape Town-based photography store Orms has added the DJI Ronin-SC to its list of drones and gimbals. The DJI Ronin-SC is a compact and lightweight motorised gimbal that is designed to stabilise video on small DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and compact camcorders under 2kg, all the while providing professional-grade stability for videos without the need of bulky and expensive gear.

Weighing 1.1kg, some of this gimbal’s most notable features include pan/tilt/roll motion, time-lapse, and the Ronin app – which has been improved for better user experience.

Juanne Whyte, pro broadcast manager at Orms, says: “The layout has been refined to offer quicker access to pre-set scenarios, a camera balancing guide, along with tutorials to help users master their handheld gimbal. The app also minimizes hardware tuning, setting filmmakers free to produce great footage. It also allows you to produce even more creative professional footage to unlock your true filmmaking potential.”

The DJI Ronin-SC introduces Force Mobile and axis lock. The Force mobile is an app-based version of the Force Pro camera movement control system. By tilting and rotating a smartphone, users can control the gimbal with ultra-low latency. The axis lock, on the other hand, is located on each arm of the gimbal and allows for faster storage and individual axis balancing. The Quick-Release Plate includes a positioning block to memorise the camera position for instant remounting. When powering off, the motors gradually power down the gimbal, ensuring reliability and quick setup for the next time it’s used.

Like cars, photographic equipment is unable to withstand a lifetime of use without being serviced. A care routine, that includes regular servicing, can now make the difference when it comes to the longevity of photographic equipment, including gimbals.

Whyte says: “Orms is an officially approved DJI Service Centre with a fully functional workshop that can service, repair and calibrate select DJI drones. This service extends to warranty repairs as well as out of warranty items, as Orms understands how critical camera equipment is to customers.”

The DJI Ronin-SC is available now at Orms for R6499 and the Ronin-SC Pro Combo is available for R10 999.
