New tool resolves source code issues
Elli√© Computing has released ECMerge v. 2.3, a programming and business tool that simplifies file, folder, and image comparison and merging. The program’s 3-way merge is ideal for programming teams that need to resolve source code differences that have been worked on by multiple developers.
Developers use ECMerge for managing source code. The software provides a much more powerful programming tool than the typical diff/merge functionality that is built into most programming environments. The multi-threaded engine speeds up the comparison and merging functions. XML comparisons are supported by dynamic filters and converters. ECMerge generates patches and takes the risk out of UNIX patch application and testing. The program includes explorer-style extensions for Linux, Windows, and Mac. ECMerge is scriptable, and includes command-line support. There is even an ECMerge Component (sold separately) that lets you integrate the program’s functionality into custom applications.
Web developers use ECMerge to compare and synchronise local and remote websites using the built-in FTP and FTPS access. The program compares both source code and images, and makes it easy to ensure that the production website contains the latest version of all programs and pictures.
Project managers and team leaders appreciate ECMerge’s Patch, XML, HTML, text, and CSV reports that track which files have been worked on. With support for worldwide collaboration, the program’s interface is available in English, French, Spanish, and Italian.
Business people use ECMerge to keep track of financial reports, sales presentations, legal contracts, and other documents whose changes have to be carefully managed. ECMerge supports Microsoft Word (DOC and DOCX) files, as well as OpenOffice Text and RTF. The intuitive graphical user interface makes it simple for non-technical people to use ECMerge to identify and manage changes to their critical business documents.
Whether you’re a software developer who needs a powerful programming tool to ensure that you can always identify the current version of each source document, a project manager who needs to coordinate system changes in files and folders that the team shares, a business person who needs to compare versions of financial reports, or an attorney who needs to compare different versions of legal contracts, ECMerge has the tools that you need.
ECMerge v. 2.3 runs under Windows XP and newer, MacOS 10.5 or later, Linux, and Solaris 10. ECMerge Standard costs $40(US) for a single-user license. The Standard version is designed for users who only need to compare two documents, images, or folders. The Professional version supports collaborative work environments and allows three-way comparisons and merges. The Pro version is priced at $60(US) for a single-user license, and lets you merge your changes and those of your coworkers, based on a common ancestor file or folder, into one updated copy. All purchases include one year of upgrades. Multi-user and site licenses are available, along with special licensing for educational institutions, students, and Open Source projects.
