Bearing in mind you have the right operating system on your computer, nothing could be simpler. Take it out of the box, plug it in and presto. If you are running Windows 2000/ME/XP or MacOS9 or X, all you need do is plug it in and your system will pick it up and install the software automatically. If you are running Windows 98/SE, insert the driver CD (included) and install the software manually. If you are using Linux, it is a bit trickier to install but the instructions are in the operating manual and you shouldn’t have any hassles.

Very much so: the USB Flash acts like any other storage medium but delivers more. As mentioned above, it really is easy to install and you shouldn’t encounter any problems writing or erasing data. The unit is sealed and self-contained, so there are no hiccups with moving parts either. And thanks to the LED, you will know straight away if the device is working correctly.

I don’t think anyone could fault the USB Flash on its versatility and utility. It is worth mentioning that when writing large amounts of information it can take a good few seconds. But that is mainly due to the speed of the USB connection itself, not any flaw in manufacture. The unit I tested had a storage capacity of 128MB, but if this does not meet your needs, other models are available. You can get models with the following capacities: 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB and 1GB. Overall though, I think that the USB Flash provides a fantastic alternative in data storage. Just try not to lose it!

There are other USB Flash sticks available on the market. Unfortunately this one does not stand out far above its competitors. Perhaps what the Kalliba lacks in this area, it makes up for in the fact that it is a high quality product.

The 128Mb unit is available for just under R1000, and the 64Mb version for around R300. This might seem a tad pricey considering you can get your hands on a CD writer for under R500 these days. However, trust me when I say that you will be getting your money’s worth. Like most gadgetry that once seemed a luxury item, once you have one, you will find it quite indispensable.
