Deon Meyer’s Trackers debuts on Showmax, DStv

The pilot episode of Deon Meyer’s thrilling new crime series will also be available to DStv Family, Compact and Compact Plus customers

MultiChoice and M-Net say they are making television history tonight (Sunday, 27 October). The much-anticipated adaptation of Deon Meyer’s international bestselling crime thriller, Trackers, hits the screens at 20:00.  The five-part series – a co-production between M-Net, HBO’s sister channel Cinemax, and the German broadcaster ZDF – will be making its worldwide debut across Africa in the prime-time slot usually allocated to Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster movies on M-Net 101. It will also immediately be available on the MultiChoice video-on-demand service, ShowMax.

MultiChoice will also make the DStv Premium channel, M-Net 101, available on the decoders of its DStv Family, Compact and Compact Plus customers as well – for one night only, between 18:00 and 22:10.

“Trackers shines the spotlight on the incredible talent working in the African film and television industry,” says Yolisa Phahle, MultiChoice CEO of General Entertainment. “We are immensely proud of this milestone production. It’s one of the biggest ventures in the history of M-Net and we trust that it will be the first of many enticing and authentic stories from our continent to reach global audiences. Tonight is a big night for MultiChoice, and we would like to share the pilot episode, which has the feel of a movie, with more of our customers.”

The pilot episode of the five-part series – loaded with heart-thumping action scenes, multi-layered characters, and chilling plot twists – is 90 minutes long. The rest of the story will unfold in four hour-long episodes. With each episode scheduled for 20:00 on M-Net 101, the weekly blockbuster movie premiere will be screened an hour later than usual, at 21:00, on 3, 10, 17 and 24 November.

Set against uniquely Southern African landscapes – from the Karoo to Khayelitsha and Limpopo to the Bo-Kaap – Trackers spins a web of intrigue that involves conspiracy, corruption, diamonds and rhinos, smugglers and smooth operators. The characters oscillate between good and evil, daring and dangerous and are portrayed by a stellar cast, including Thapelo Mokoena, Rolanda Marais, Brendan Daniels, Sandi Schultz, James Gracie, Sisanda Henna, Jill Middelkop, Trix Vivier, Jerry Mofokeng, Grace Olifant, Albert Maritz and Ed Stoppard.
