Nigerians have their cake online on Valentine’s Day

According to Hellofood.com, the food delivery platform backed by MTN, Tigo and Rocket Internet, personalised cakes and chocolate selections are the most ordered products on Valentine’s Day.

Although Nigerians successfully imported the Valentine’s Day concept of romance, they remain loyal to the classic ideas when it comes to surprising that special someone on Valentine’s Day. According to Hellofood.com, the food delivery platform backed by MTN, Tigo and Rocket Internet, personalised cakes and chocolate selections are the most ordered products.

Up until now, approximately 20% of daily food orders received through the site and mobile appinclude desserts and this percentage will increase with dinner orders, according to Hellofood.com representatives. Many restaurants registered on Hellofood.com have already prepared special menus dedicated to people in love, in which the dessert is the piece which cannot be resisted.

However, the most ordered Valentine’s products are the traditional cakes. Especially, extravagant creations often personalised with a special message of love are what Hellofood.com vendors really cash in on, on Valentine’s Day.

‚”In the upcoming weeks, we are expecting an overall increase in orders, especially since 1st and 8th of March which both fall on a Saturday. This is an ideal day for lovers who choose to celebrate in the privacy of their home with a romantic dinner for two. Many of the restaurants registered on Hellofood.com have already prepared special menus for people in love, so those who want a special dessert can always choose between a red velvet, decorated sponge or black forest chocolate cake‚”, said James Gibson, Country Manager Hellofood.com.

Hellofood.com currently collaborates with 250 restaurants in Lagos and Abuja, and will soon launch in Port Harcourt.
