mapIT calls on developers

Digital mapping specialists mapIT are following up their Developers Day held in March, when more than 60 developers attended, with another free Developers Day on 5 October.

The event, in Johannesburg, will be a development session where delegates will learn all about the latest features available on the platform covering both web and mobile and focuses on deCarta’s newest version of its JavaScript API built on top of the industry’s leading independent high-volume LBS platform.

Leveraging cutting-edge HTML5 technologies, developers will see how to write once and deploy everywhere with the cross-device API that will allow for building applications that run seamlessly on tablets, smartphones and desktop devices. deCarta’s platform supports some of the largest LBS services in the world and is available as a cloud based service or as a self-hosted solution.

Control the look and feel of your map experience, the flexible user interface (UI) library is highly customisable and allows customers to design applications that reflect their visual style of choice and brand through five different map styles or building their own.

Fleet and mobile resource management specific features will be covered including pin clustering, draggable shapes, customisable polygons, exclusion zones, geo-fencing and highly configurable routing.

mapIT will once again be running a competition for the best application developed by the end of the day on a concept of the individual developers choice. The best application developed will win R30 000 worth of free transactions on the API.

‚”Whether a developer needs or are currently utilising web or mobile location based services (LBS) applications, this is the preferred technology platform which enables the user to easily white label any application. Users of our LBS platform receive local support from mapIT’s support team, quality mapping data powered by TomTom, full control of your content and an online free DevZone portal for 24/7 support.‚” says Etienne Louw, Managing Director mapIT.

One of the most unique experiences that delegates will experience at the event is the free access to mapIT software during the development phase of their application. Developers can also download the complete source code for the API from the mapIT DevZone, allowing them to get under the hood and customise and extend the API to a fuller extent than otherwise found in the industry.
