Kaspersky Lab secures Linux

Kaspersky Lab has released Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Linux which includes Kaspersky’s Anti-Virus Engine 8.0.
Kaspersky Lab has announced the release of Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Linux. The updated version of the application designed to protect Linux workstations is available as part of the following corporate products: Kaspersky Work Space Security, Kaspersky Open Space Security, Kaspersky Business Space Security and Kaspersky Enterprise Space Security. The application provides maximum protection for Linux-based systems and can be integrated into the corporate IT environment for purposes of centralised administration, gathering statistics and enforcing global security policies.

Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Linux includes Kaspersky Anti-Virus Engine 8.0 – an updated version of Kaspersky Lab’s antivirus engine which provides effective anti-malware protection. Antivirus protection is provided in real time, as well as on demand and on schedule. Additionally, the product supports configuring custom parameters for scanning specific areas of the system on a regular basis.

The new version combines the functionality of the previous versions of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.7 for Linux and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 5.5 for Samba. As a result, the application uses two types of hooks to intercept file operations: at the Linux kernel level and at the SMB network protocol level. The application also features an heuristic analyser and support for disinfecting files stored in archives.

Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Linux effectively neutralises threats which target Linux, as well as those targeting Windows and Mac OS X. In combination with support for hooking Samba file operations, this provides additional protection for corporate environments which include workstations based on different platforms. Administration of Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Linux is provided via an intuitive graphical interface that is fully compatible with popular desktop environments Gnome and KDE. The program’s parameters can also be configured from the command line. Linux workstations can be integrated into the corporate security environment using Kaspersky Administration Kit 8.0, a centralised administration utility which supports remote installation, activation and removal of Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Linux, reporting and enforcement of global security policies. System administrators can use the management console to view reports on the threats detected and take the appropriate measures to neutralise these threats. In addition, a centralised system can be set up to deliver antivirus database and security module updates to workstations running under Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.

Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Linux is compatible with the main Linux distributions, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Debian, Ubuntu and compatible distributions. Both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms are supported.
