Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode is now free to download and play across all platforms. Until 24 January, the Blackout Free Trial features all the intense action from the game mode that brings together characters, locations, weapons and gear from across the series, with Black Ops signature gameplay in the biggest map in franchise history. The new game mode is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC exclusively on Blizzard, and will end at 20:00 South African time on 24 January.

“The community response to Blackout has been incredible, and we love watching how players have really made the mode their own, evolving gameplay to a new level,” said Dan Bunting, co-studio head at Treyarch. “We can’t wait to welcome new players to experience the unique Black Ops style of battle royale in Blackout.”

Blackout allows players to go solo, or join their friends in duos or quads, and battle across land, sea and air. Players fight as a variety of characters in locations inspired by maps including Nuketown, Firing Range, Raid, and Cargo, offering diverse gameplay action.

“It’s amazing to see the amount of creativity and fun that our players have from the moment they start playing,” said Mark Gordon, co-studio head at Treyarch. “Particularly as game developers, we’ve always been fascinated watching clips and streams of how fans play, and we can’t wait to see even more people jump into the action.”

All progress and earned in-game items are saved and immediately accessible once a player upgrades to the full game from the Blackout Free Trial. Also, a playlist called “Down But Not Out” is live during the trial. This mode is available for quads, and allows players’ eliminated team members to wingsuit back into the game and re-join them in each new collapse, except for the final circle. “Down But Not Out” is live now on PlayStation 4, and will go live on other platforms to follow.

LG Q Stylus

The LG Q Stylus is a handwriting-input smartphone without the premium price. The no-nonsense stylus adds more functionality beyond the typical keyboard experience, while the intelligent palm rejection system ensures that accuracy is not an issue when resting one’s hand on the display.

As with the Samsung Note, with the display off, the LG Q Stylus recognises and records handwritten notes, ideal for sudden flashes of inspiration. Beyond notes and memos, the stylus can also be used to personalise captured images and videos to create animated GIFs.

Click through to read about the fast camera auto-focus and 7.1 surround sound quality on the LG Q Stylus.

Beyond the stylus, the LG Q Stylus offers premium features normally found in more expensive phones, such as an advanced camera that rivals the lens of the LG G series. QLens comes standard on the handset, allowing an image of a product to be captured to get more information on where to purchase that item or to learn about similar products. QLens is intelligent enough to recognise images of food, fashion, celebrities and landmarks, for example.

The intelligent camera doesn’t sacrifice on image quality, sporting an 8MP front camera and 16MP rear lens. Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) makes the camera 23% faster than conventional autofocus while Portrait Mode delivers bokeh selfies.

Audiophiles will appreciate the sound quality of the LG Q Stylus. The phone offers the same advanced DTS:X found in the V and G series for up to 7.1 channel 3D surround sound when listening with earphones. USB Type-C fast charging, IP68 water and dust protection and MIL-STD 810G compliance will appeal to the LG Q Stylus. The Smart Rear Key fingerprint sensor not only provides easy-to-reach security; it also doubles as the selfie camera shutter button.

Surrounded by the sleek metallic body, the 6.2-inch FHD+ FullVision display delivers  bright and vivid colours to enhance the viewing experience. The 18:9 screen ratio, thin bezel, curved tempered glass and optimised body width all work together to make the phone comfortable to hold and use with one hand.

“The LG Q Stylus adds another dimension to our series of exceptionally-priced midrange phones that deliver amazing value to consumers,” says Ha Jeung, senior VP and head of LG Electronics’ Mobile Business Division. “This phone is another example of LG’s promise to deliver a wider selection of devices this year with premium features designed to meet the diverse needs of today’s evolving smartphone users.”
