CES: Wrist revolution gets kickstart

At this year’s International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, a wrist revolution is underway with an entire section of the exhibition being dedicated to smart watches and other wearable devices.

They’re calling it a Wrist Revolution. At the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week, a section of the exhibition area is dedicated to wearable devices to highlight the eruption of gadgets in this segment.

The new WristRevolution TechZone, say the organisers, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is ‚”where style, sensors and connectivity converge to create the most sophisticated wristwatches on the market‚”.

‚”What was once science fiction is now a reality as micro electromechanical systems (MEMS) enable seamless functionality to be packed into wearable devices.‚”

The CEA believes that 2014 will be a watershed year for smart watches and other wearable devices.

Other organisations are taking advantage of the attention, using CES to announce new product and initiatives.

One of the major announcements will be for a series of crowd-sourced projects that will launch together on January 28 to demonstrate the potential for innovation by new companies in mobile and wearable computing.

Notch and Quebee use multiple sensors to form a personal network for moving data from sensors to a smartphone. Avid Union has designed The Blade Mobile Tech Case to store multiple mobile devices and sensors such as the Notch and Quebee. Also launching is Specter, a Virtual Reality horror game designed for the Oculus Rift, pioneering a new level of realism in horror gaming.
