AppDate: FNB app gets QR

SEAN BACHER’S South African app roundup highlights updates from FNB, Vodacom and Namola, and intros Flow and PlayJ.

FNB Banking App with QR payment

FNB is expanding its digital payments ecosystem by enabling consumers and sole proprietor businesses to perform and accept QR code payments using the FNB Banking App.

To make a payment, individual FNB customers enable the new FNB App ‘Scan to Pay’ widget on their smartphones. Alternatively, they can select the Payments option on the FNB App, login and select FNB Pay, then click on ‘Scan to Pay’.

Similarly, businesses select Payments, login and click on ‘Speedpoint’, register, and begin to use the service. Businesses have the option to display the QR Code within the FNB app, e-mail and print the QR code, or share it via social media. There are no monthly rental or maintenance costs, which makes this a cost effective means for a business to accept digital payments.

Platform: Most smartphones.

Expect to pay: A free to use service.

Stockists: Download the FNB Banking App.

Flow

Tenants in South Africa could get up to 20% of their rent back in rewards, every month, thanks to Flow, a free mobile app available for download from the Apple and Android app stores.

Tenants in South Africa get rewarded for registering on the app, adding their property details, paying their rent on time, and looking after their homes, among other.

Tenants using Flow can be rewarded for good rental behaviour even if their landlord isn’t active on the app (although there are many benefits for landlords to sign up).

For rewards, Flow has struck partnerships with a number of brands in the lifestyle, entertainment, homeware, fashion and travel space, as well as a selection of airtime and electricity providers.

Platform: Android and iOS

Expect to pay: A free download.

Stockists: Visit the store linked to your device
