Panda to protect XP users

Despite Microsoft discontinuing Windows XP support, Panada Security has said that its 2014 corporate and retail solutions will continue to protect customers using the operating system.

Microsoft launched Windows XP in 2001, and after almost 13 years users will no longer receive technical assistance, automatic security updates or fixes from Microsoft to help protect their PCs. Computers will be able to continue running Windows XP: however, discontinued support leaves the operating system extremely vulnerable to malware infections.

Windows XP users should take additional precautions after April, following general security best practices to prevent malware infections until they can upgrade to an up-to-date operating system.

Other than having an effective security solution, regularly updating software and cautious online browsing are two of the most effective methods of protecting PCs from malware. Using a limited account when accessing the internet can also minimise malware infection. The challenge is finding the right balance between administrative complexity and the level of security needed for adequate protection.
