Windows Phone 7.8 released, upgrade for Lumia

A Windows Phone 7.8 update is being rolled out, which includes a range of additional features and settings for Nokia Lumia devices.

The Windows Phone 7.8 update is beginning its rollout to smartphones running on Windows Phone 7.5. People can now transform their Nokia Lumia device with a range of exciting new personalisation features including resizable tiles, new lock screen options, increased language support and more theme colours.

Following extensive software testing, update notifications will begin to appear for Nokia Lumia 510, 610, 710, 800 and 900 owners with an unlocked phone or operator approved software during February. A message will appear on the phone encouraging users to get the update, and they will simply need to connect their phone to their computer via Zune for PC, or the Windows Phone app for Mac and follow the onscreen instructions.

In addition to major system updates, there has been a stream of new features introduced to Nokia Lumia. These include Internet sharing, Bluetooth sharing, imaging enhancements like Camera Extras, and the release of apps such as Contact Share, Play To and Nokia City Lens.

The Start screen experience is completely refreshed with the ability to re-size tiles and new options available on the lock screen enable features like having a daily background image from Bing and boasts improved pocket and child lock screen security.

While the Windows Phone 7.8 update rolls out for Nokia Lumia smartphones users can ensure that they don’t miss out on the update, by checking that notifications are enabled on their phone. Go to Settings > Phone Update > ‚”Notify me when new updates are found‚”.
