Vodacom Color brightens students’ day
Students from the University of Johannesburg were treated to a unique and exciting concept‚ a human vending machine. The 4m x 2m, bicycle-powered machine was brought onto the campus by Vodacom Color – the newly launched youth-specific brand from Vodacom.
Upon registering for the new service, students received a token and waited in line to win a mystery prize from the vending machine. Once the token was dropped into the vending machine’s slot, music was pumped through a chamber housing a cyclist and bike connected to an enormous wheel laden with prizes. The cyclist’s pedalling caused the wheel to spin and once the music stopped a prize was dispensed. Students queued eagerly to take part in this exciting opportunity and were wowed by the array of prizes, ranging from gift vouchers to Blackberry’s and Wiis, which were doled out by the vending machine.
According to Nozipho Mlambo, Vodacom Color Brand Manager, ‚With the human vending machine we wanted to bring across the concept that with Vodacom Color you get more value, more flexibility, more freedom and more fun ‚ basically just more, and this was a fresh and fun way to do so‚ .
When asked what they thought about the day’s event, almost all of the students said that it was ‚awesome’, ‚cool’ and ‚unique’.
