Race Camp comes to SuperSport

Fans of Nissan and PlayStation’s GT Academy can now catch a glimpse of the goings on in the final stages of the competition as the TV series airs in August on SuperSport.

With eight South Africans joining their Middle Eastern counterparts in England for Race Camp, only one winner will emerge to claim overall victory.

Based on the GranTurismo 5 racing simulator for the Sony PlayStation and featuring a range of Nissan cars, GT Academy has seen numerous virtual racing drivers turn from amateur enthusiasts to professional real-world racing drivers or ‚’Nismo Athletes’ as they are known, all over the world, with past winners of GT Academy even participating at the 24 Hours of Le Mans spectacular.

The competition saw its first foray onto the African continent as last October South African hopefuls were given the opportunity to show their virtual potential online and at live activation events, after which the top 25 entered into strenuous physical and mental tests before being whittled down to the top eight and joining their Middle Eastern counterparts at Race Camp at Silverstone in the UK. The winner of GT Academy will go on to the Driver Development Programme where he will earn his new international racing license and the ultimate prize of driving a racing Nissan at the Silverstone 1000km endurance race in 2014.

Says Johan Kleynhans, Director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at Nissan South Africa: ‚”We’ll be biting our nails over the coming weeks as we watch our local boys battle it out in the UK and we wish them all the best of luck in the final stages of what has been a life-changing experience for all of them.”

‚””GT academy has been a resounding success for Nissan in South Africa, with all expectations being surpassed. One of our South African drivers taking the honours would be the cherry on top and we wish them the best of luck. We hope to host another GT Academy competition in South Africa in future with the hope of sending another potential South African future champion to the international motorsport fraternity.‚””

GT Academy 2013 TV series will be premiered on SuperSport as follows:
