MWC: The slimmest smartphone breaks 6mm barrier
Wannabe smartphone leader Gionee came to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week to lay public claim to making the thinnest smartphone in the world.
Gionee, a global designer and manufacturer of mobile devices, took the slimness prize at this week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It is able to claim the world’s slimmest smartphone, namely the Elife S5.5, which is only 5.5mm thick.
The company says It is not just about the slim design: the performance is not compromised: “The Elife S5.5 is equipped with a stunning 5.0 inch Full HD Super AMOLED plus screen, a true Octa-core 1.7GHz processor, a 13 megapixel rear camera and the world’s first 95 degree ultra-wide angle 5 megapixel front camera.””
A 95 degree wide angle front camera is designed for taking self-group shots or full body selfies. The S5.5 has a 2300mAh battery and, with the next upgrade, battery capacity is to increase to 2450mAh.
Gionee’s flagship model, Elife E7, which launched in December last year, was also on view at Gionee’s booth. it is claimed to be one of the best Android camera phones and boasts several landmarks: the first manufacturer to have an auto focus 16MP rear plus 8MP front camera and Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 8974AC chipset with 2.5GHz. This phone is made for DSLR amateurs and has a professional user interface with a separate camera app that includes photo effects like “”12 levels auto beauty effect”” and auto make up.
The mid-end level LTE smartphone CTRL V5 LTE was also unveiled at MWC. The dual-SIM phone has a 4.7′ QHD display, 8MP rear camera plus 2MP front camera, quad-core 1.3GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 1800mAh battery and 8mm thick body. It runs Android OS 4.2 Jelly Bean.
