Missing Children SA to benefit from a rose

Ludwig’s Roses has cultivated a BlackBerry Rose especially for Research In Motion (RIM), the company that developed the BlackBerry Solution. This was done in aid of Missing Children in South Africa. Ludwig’s Roses has agreed to donate R5 for each BlackBerry Rose sold and RIM has said that it will match this with a R5 contribution of its own.

Research In Motion (RIM), the company behind the BlackBerry solution, has teamed up with Ludwig’s Roses to create a special BlackBerry Rose in aid of Missing Children South Africa. As part of this BlackBerry initiative, Ludwig’s Roses agreed to donate R5 from the proceeds from the sale of each rose bush to Missing Children SA: RIM will match this with a R5 contribution of its own.

The deep-red BlackBerry Rose especially cultivated for BlackBerry was launched on 4 February in collaboration with Ludwig’s Rose Farm and Jenna Clifford and going forth it will be sold through Ludwig’s Rose Farm and selected retail outlets countrywide.

Missing Children SA is a project undertaken by concerned and compassionate South Africans, aimed at assisting in finding missing children who are in dire need of help.

Says Deon Liebenberg, regional director for Sub Sahara Africa at RIM: “The BlackBerry Rose is a great way to contribute to a worthy cause in a sustainable manner. This campaign will help us spread awareness among South Africans about how a BlackBerry smartphone is not only a key lifestyle device used to create a balanced and organised life, but the various ways in which a BlackBerry enables communication can also aid in spreading the word about a missing child.

Ludwig’s Roses, founded by Ludwig Taschner in 1971, is the premier rose nursery in South Africa with the largest selection of rose varieties available in the world. It has created a beautiful, eye-catching rose deserving of the BlackBerry name.

Missing Children SA engages with radio stations, newspapers, websites and other mediums when a child goes missing so that the general public can help to find him or her. Key staff members at Missing Children SA are now carrying BlackBerry smartphones to engage with media, update their website and Facebook pages as well as their Twitter feeds: send emails, SMSs and MMSs out, and so on as soon as they receive news about a missing child. The sooner the word about a missing child is spread, the better the chances for his or her safe return are.

Missing Children SA also plays an important role in advocating children’s rights and informing the public about the plight of missing and exploited children in South Africa.
