Mimecast leads in Cloud security

Mimecast has been named leader in hosted email security and management solutions by research group BackChannel.

According to the bi-annual Hosted Email Security report, Mimecast has claimed 40% or more market share across key vertical sectors, including public administration, finance and transport and utilities.

This new market share data reflects a surge in growth for Mimecast’s South African operation. The company has achieved a 97% client growth year-on-year and has increased its user base by 65%.

BackChannel electronically surveyed over 3,600 organisations in South Africa in order to discover the actual market share amongst competing vendors for hosted email security and management services.

Steve Barnett, co-founder of BackChannel, added: ‚When we first started tracking their activities in 2006 Mimecast was a new kid on the block, but this year they won the 2011 CRN ‘Security Vendor of the Year’ in the UK and our latest reports show them taking control of the South African market and growing at a terrific pace worldwide.‚

Globally, Mimecast has reported revenues for the nine months to December 31st 2011 up almost 50% on the previous year, and expects to pass 5,000 customers and annual revenue of $50m in the current quarter. The company added 260,000 users during the nine month period, and passed the 1m user milestone in July 2011.
