Kaspersky gets Advanced+ certificate

Kaspersky Lab, has announced that Kaspersky Internet Security has received an ‚Advanced+‚ certificate in AV-Comparatives’ independent testing.

Kaspersky Lab, has announced that Kaspersky Internet Security has received an ‚Advanced+‚ certificate in AV-Comparatives’ independent testing. This highest rating from the respected European independent testing lab was based on the results of a whole-product dynamic test in the second quarter of 2011.

AV-Comparatives’ real-world tests are focused on evaluating the full range of technologies implemented in a security solution. In the second quarter of 2011 AV-Comparatives performed a test of Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 and 2012. The products were able to update signature databases and query the cloud-based Kaspersky Security Network throughout the whole testing process. Therefore, this kind of testing by AV-Comparatives is very close to reflecting real-world scenarios users face.

During the day-to-day testing, all security products were exposed to a total of 2480 test cases of malware and infected Websites. Kaspersky Internet Security successfully blocked 98.2% of the threats. Another 23 samples of malware were also detected by Kaspersky Internet Security and could have been successfully blocked in a real-life situation after displaying a warning. The testing lab also checked security software from different vendors for false positive detections of legitimate files and Web pages. The resulting number of false positives for Kaspersky Internet Security was below average – suspicious behaviour was blocked for only 5 out of 2000 legitimate samples.

Nikita Shvetsov, Director of Anti-Malware Research at Kaspersky Lab, said: ‚Dynamic or real-world testing of security software challenges both the vendors and the independent testing labs. The latter deal with a complicated daily exercise of exposing machines with a security solution installed to dozens of the latest malicious programs and Web pages. The challenge for the software vendors is to build a security solution that is as light on resources as possible, while at the same time blocking every suspicious action made. These two requirements often contradict each other, but judging by the results of this independent testing, we are pleased to see that we are moving in the right direction in getting the balance right between the two.‚
