Instilling a passion for science
The 10th annual Sasol Techno X experience opened its doors earlier this week to thousands of learners at the Boiketlong Sports Centre in Sasolburg. Aimed at grade 7 – 12 learners, the event is expected to draw learners from all over South Africa.
One of the biggest events of its kind in South Africa, Sasol Techno X introduces learners to the world of science and technology, at a practical level. With over 80 interactive exhibitions to explore, as well as the option of a number of site visits to industries in and around the Sasolburg area, this year’s participants are spoilt for choice.
Since its inception ten years ago, the event has continued to grow in popularity with many of the original exhibitors having participated in the very first event in 2000. “We are proud to be hosting an event that is supported by some of the biggest businesses and organisations in South Africa. By working together we can ensure that the youth of today are ready to face the challenges of tomorrow,” said Dr. Ivor Zwane, Sasolburg corporate affairs manager, at the opening ceremony.
Taking place at the Boiketlong Sports Centre in Sasolburg from 16 – 20 August, one of the key goals of the exhibition is to expose learners to the multitude of career choices available to them in the fields of science, maths and technology.
“By inspiring today’s youth with interactive learning experiences, we hope to instill in them a passion for natural sciences,” Dr. Zwane said. “Some of the children visiting Techno X this year may one day assist Sasol in reaching new frontiers.”
