E-commerce Awards a dream for edreams

Up-and-coming gadget store edreams.co.za was the biggest winner in the 2008 South African E-commerce Awards, taking three categories. Kalahari.net and Look and Listen were the only other multiple winners, but there were several surprise awards. More than 10 000 people votes in the awards, along with a panel of judges.

eDreams won the most awards in theSouth African E-commerce Awards 2008 by winning the Best Computer Store, Best Home and Garden Store and Best Kids and Baby Store categories.

The awards carried the same format as in previous years, first giving the public the opportunity to nominate their favourite South African online stores in 20 different categories. Once a list of nominees had been published, the public and a panel of Judges were given the opportunity to cast their votes.

The votes were split 49% from the public and 51% from the judges. This year’s judges were Albert Bredenhann, Andy Hadfield, Arthur Goldstuck (editor of Gadget), Charl Norman, Damaria Senne, Ferdie Bester, Henk Kleynhans, Ismail Dhorat and Marlon Parker.

Kalahari.net took both the Best Game Store and Best Online Book store categories. Surprise winners were Look and Listen, who only recently launched their striking new web site, which earned them this year’s Best E-Commerce Web Site award, and the beleaguered SA Rugby, whose web site won the Best Sports and Outdoor category.
