Co.za gets into classroom

Uniforum SA, the organisation that maintains the co.za domain registry is supporting the SchoolNet ICT in the Classroom conference, which is focused on how ICT is being used in the classroom.

Uniforum SA, the organisation that maintains the CO.ZA domain registry, has thrown its full weight behind the biennial SchoolNet ICT in the Classroom conference in line with its focus on supporting ICT skills development for teachers.

Uniforum will be sponsoring the registration, transport and accommodation fees of 43 teachers. The organisation is a major advocate and sponsor of ICT in education through its ‚CO.ZA Cares’ Corporate Social Investment programme, which targets schools in under-resourced communities for education, training and computer skills development.

The event, to be hosted at St John’s College, Johannesburg from 5 – 7 July 2011, is hosted by SchoolNet South Africa. About 500 delegates will be attending the conference, including educators, provincial and national educational department officials, sponsors, and representatives from other development and training organizations.

The conference has been a premier event for ICT in education for the past 14 years and is hosted in different provinces each time to allow equal access to as many educators as possible. This year the venue is Johannesburg.

The conference is will be opened by the Deputy Minister of Education, Enver Surty, on 5 July. The conference programme is focused on how ICT is being used in the classroom and will include the following themes:

. working and learning smarter with social media

. the power of collaboration in and beyond the school

. pedagogical approaches that maximise the potential of ICT

. ideas for ICT use in the classroom

Speakers and workshop leaders will include:

*Jane Hart from the Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies, UK

*Naomi Harm, educational technology literacy specialist from Minnesota, USA,

*John Davitt, writer, broadcaster and a digital toolmaker, former senior education manager from the UK

* Shelee King George, from Peer-Ed will be presenting from Seattle by video-conference and will be joined by some teachers from other parts of the United States.
