Call of Duty calls
Next weekend, Call of Duty Ghosts players will battle it out for victory in the MWEB GameZone Master Series Ghosts LAN tournament in Gauteng.
“This one’s for the Call of Duty console community,” says Des Kurz, head of Digital and Gaming at MWEB. “MWEB is the largest host of gaming infrastructure in South Africa – we offer a stable, fast connection to serious gamers to give them platinum priority on the network. Call of Duty is one of our flagship games, so our COD players are important to us. This tournament is an opportunity to honour our best teams.
A total of 16 teams comprised of four players each will descend upon Media City in Auckland Park to take each other on at one of the world’s most popular multiplayer first-person shooter games. The tournament will take place over two days on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July. Group stages will take place on the 19th where the 16 teams will be divided into a bracket of four teams. Each team will play one another once. From there the tournament will move to the double elimination bracket of play which will consist of the top two teams from each group.
The event will offer fans three venues – a gamer area, a breakaway area and a spectator area. Refreshments will be available at local food vendors in close proximity to the venue.
Prizes up for grabs include R10 000 in Kalahari vouchers and exclusive, sought-after Red Bull merchandise. The team claiming first place will win R5 000 (4 x R1250 Kalahari vouchers) and 4 x Red Bull F1 Racing caps. The team in second place gets R3000 (4 x R750 vouchers) and 4 x Red Bull F1 Racing caps. Third place claims R2000 (4 x R500) and 4 x Red Bull F1 Racing caps and fourth place walks away with 4 x Red Bull F1 Racing caps and 4 x Red Bulletin SIGG flasks.

· How to register: Team captains must email gamesevents@mweb.com with the following details:
– Team Name
– List of players, including names, surname, age and alias (gamertag)
– Clear indication of captain within the team
Please note: Teams confirmed for registration will be listed on the MWEB GameZone Forum. Preference will be given to those who have bought plane tickets to fly to Johannesburg. When registering, players must send the proof of their planned and paid for travel arrangements if they wish to claim on this registration preference.
