In this week’s round-up of the latest apps, SEAN BACHER highlights the Mobilium Smart Health App, the updated of Kaspersky Security for Mobile, My Pocket Office for Nokia Asha Full Touch devices, S4BB’s updated Theme for BlackBerry 10 and Path for Windows Phone 8.

Mobilium Smart Health App

The Mobilium Smart Health App offers support and guidance to fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria. It not only allows users to educate themselves about the diseases, but also lets them identify symptoms, find high-risk areas and offers precautionary measures when travelling to those areas. Future app releases are expected to include information on nutrition and prenatal/postnatal mother and newborn care.

Update of Kaspersky Security for Mobile

Besides protecting smartphones from spyware, malware and viruses, the new version of Kaspersky Security for Mobile offers enhanced performance, a new user interface and includes several new functions, like notifications when employees start roaming on international networks. This allows administrators to enforce money-saving techniques by limiting the number of times the phone synchronises e-mail and Twitter accounts.

My Pocket Office for Nokia Asha Full Touch devices

My Pocket Office comprises three apps in one that lets users open Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. All three apps have a similar appearance, making it easy to use. The only difference is the colour scheme for each, with blue for Word, green for Excel and red for PowerPoint, closely resembling the desktop icons for each programme. It brings Asha devices closer to smartphone performance.

S4BB’s updated Theme for BlackBerry 10

The update Theme for the BlackBerry 10 operating system is now also compatible with the new Z30 smartphone. Over 80 themes come with the app. In addition to choosing a theme, users can further customise the look of their phone by choosing from a variety of wallpapers and photos. The update also fixes many of the bugs associated with its predecessors.

Path for Windows Phone 8

Path is a social networking-enabled photo sharing and messaging service for mobile devices that allows for the easy sharing of photos between friends and family. Users update their stream on Path by posting photos, adding tags for people and places. However, unlike Twitter and other social networking services, this app limits each user’s social network to 150 friends to encourage users to select only high-quality connections. It’s now available on Windows phones for the first time.
