HSPA+ speeds into Free State towns
Cell C yesterday announced that it has extended its HSPA+ coverage in the Free State with the launch of its network in the city of Welkom and neighbouring towns of Kroonstad and Koppies.
This comes almost one year after Bloemfontein, the province’s capital, became the second city in the country to benefit from Cell C’s HSPA+ network. Today, Cell C is providing fast and affordable internet access to more than 63% of the country’s population.
Mothibi Ramusi, Cell C’s Executive Head of Regulatory Affairs said the company sees the introduction of the new network as an economic enabler which has the potential to change the lives of millions of South Africans.
‚Cell C’s new network is having a positive effect on the lives of everyday South Africans, across a broad range of economic circumstances and geographical locations. Broadband access impacts on almost all elements of everyday life including health care, education, banking and employment opportunities.
He said Cell C will continue to roll out its national broadband infrastructure to facilitate school, medical facilities, government, citizens and sector connectivity plans. ‚We call upon the Free State community to engage with us and together develop sustainable enterprise initiatives towards the 2020 ICT vision.
Cell C also donated modems and data bundles to two local schools. Bodibeng Secondary School in Kroonstad and Lebogang Secondary School in Welkom each received 10 Speedsticks and 60GB of data (5GB x 12 months) per modem.
