Table Manners reminded me that when one loses everything, finding hope is the best thing one can do. The film shows how healthy relationships and support helps one get through tough times. For Megan, the housewife and main character of the film, the path to understanding begins with realising that she is enough and all she needs is her family, food and love. Life’s 3 courses made easy.
The film also shows how one can use technology therapeutically. When Megan starts to post her meals on her blog, it provides her with a platform to showcase her passion for food. This, in combination with her support network, helps her process the events that happen around her.
SAFTA Award-winning writer Nkuli Sibeko has crafted a brilliant story about how Megan copes with hardship, and about the importance of a support network, whether it be physical or virtual. Director Leli Maki has represented this emotive story in ways that feel raw and very real. The movie is a must-see for South Africans. – Bryan Turner
