3D comes to the Satellite A665 and Qosmio F60

Toshiba Computer Systems has announced extended 3D support on its Qosmio F60 and the 3D enabled models of Satellite A665. The updated laptop models will support Blu-ray 3D disc and streaming of 3D movie data via HDMI to a 3D-TV set.

Both laptops will feature a 2D to 3D conversion application that adds a new dimension to 2D movies. The updated Qosmio F60 and Satellite A665 3D will be available during the fourth quarter of 2010 throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Breathing new life into 2D videos

‚As there is still only a limited number of 3D movie sources available, we now offer an enhanced 3D experience on the Satellite A665 3D, and also on 3D-TV sets,” says Reon Coetzee, Regional Sales Manager, Toshiba South Africa. ‚Users now can breathe new life into their 2D DVD titles and 2D home video content by using the high processing power of our laptops.”” Both the Qosmio F60 and the Satellite A665 3D feature the new Toshiba Video Player 3D. This software application, exclusively available for Toshiba customers, uses complex algorithms to ‚up-convert’ 2D DVDs to 3D. In the case of the Satellite A665 this 3D content can be viewed on the laptop’s 120Hz HD 3D-capable display.

Streaming 3D movies to a 3D-TV set

The Qosmio F60 and the Satellite A665 now offer an HDMI interface which is capable of handling 3D content. This allows streaming of 3D content directly to a 3D-TV set: this could be native Blu-ray 3D Disc or 3D DVD movies: and also content that is converted from 2D to 3D such as home video content and standard DVD titles. With active shutter glasses that are compatible with the connected 3D-TV set, users can immerse themselves in true-to-life pictures on the big screen of a 3-D capable TV set.

3D gaming on the Satellite A665

The Satellite A665 3D also supports streaming of 3D gaming data via HDMI. So gamers now have the choice to enjoy 3D games on the internal 39.6cm (15.6‚) TruBrite HD 3D display with LED backlighting (120Hz) or experience a totally new gaming experience on the bigger screen of a 3D-TV, together with their friends or family.

Updates for existing Satellite A665 3D available

To ensure that all customers who already own a Satellite A665 3D can enjoy the new 3D features, all devices will be upgradeable by software download.

The Toshiba Satellite A665 3D and Qosmio F60 will be available from Mustek (011 237 1000) at a recommended retail price starting from R13, 999 and R15, 999 respectively.
