LG announces Google powered Optimus One smartphone

LG Electronics South Africa last night launched the LG Optimus One with Google, a smartphone from the company’s Optimus series of smart devices.

The Optimus One with Google is powered by a 600 MHz chip running Android 2.2 (Froyo) and is optimised for Google Mobile Services to deliver an ultimate smartphone experience.

LG Optimus One with Google is among the earliest smartphones to run on Android 2.2, nicknamed Froyo- the latest edition of Google’s mobile platform. The device enable professionals to easily sync with Outlook Calendar for improved productivity, while offering portable Wi-Fi hotspots to easily share a single 3G connection with others. The new handset is furthermore optimised for all popular Google Mobile Services, including: Google Voice Search, Google Voice Actions, Google Shopper and Google Maps with voice navigation. It also offers access to the vast catalogue of more than 80 000 exciting Android applications.

The LG Optimus One with Google was developed based on consumer insight which shows that first-time smartphone users need quick access to various information sources as well as application services. As a result, the Optimus series of devices focus on offering instant information searches and versatile Google applications.

In creating the LG Optimus One with Google, LG’s research and development team specifically designed the handset for the Froyo platform and Google Mobile Services. The result is a smartphone that blends superb design with ease of use and is a perfect entry level mobile device for smartphone users.

Featuring a fun, user-friendly interface, the LG Optimus One with Google also feature the exclusive LG App Advisor which recommends 10 highly rated applications to the user every two weeks. The newly designed LG user interface (UI) and the sleek new carkit cradle accessory, further offers users easier and more intuitive ways to enjoy all the benefits of Android 2.2.

The phone features a 3MP camera with face tracking and smile shot, a 3.2‚ wide HVGA screen, a long-lasting 1500mAh capacity battery and N- Drive GPS Navigation.

The LG Optimus One with Google will be available in South Africa in November 2010 with a recommended retail price of R2 499.00.
