Discovery Networks and DStv team up
You’ve seen the programs, but now Animal Planet (DStv channel 264) is putting its Animal Planet Heroes Campaign into action. Together with DStv, Discovery Network’s Animal Planet has teamed up with Save the Rhino International to stop rhino poachers’ reign of terror in South Africa.
The plight of the Rhino in South Africa is currently at the forefront of the nation’s minds and is being widely reported on at the moment. The threat of rhino poaching in the country is at its highest level, with the population of rhino being decimated from in the mid-90’s to dwindling numbers, according to recent reports.
Animal Planet has been at the forefront of protecting endangered creatures and fighting for animal rights throughout the world, and this South African campaign will further allow the channel to give back to the land that has spurned so many of its hallmark shows.
Through both on-air promotions and magazine advertising, viewers are encouraged to SMS ‚HEROES’ to 38215, to raise funds for the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park in South Africa, one of the rhino programs supported by Save the Rhino International. Each SMS costs 10 Rand and all donations after Network and admin fee deductions will be donated to the charity. The campaign will run until 5 November 2010.
Everyday heroes are more common than one would think ‚ this is Animal Planet’s celebration with its current Animal Heroes Campaign from September through to December this year. Through this inspiring campaign, you can be an Animal Planet hero just like some of the featured hosts, Dave Salmoni, Bruce George and Donald Schultz.
