Gareth Cliff gets iPhone app
Yesterday, the Core group and Gareth Cliff announced the Gareth Cliff app for the iPhone. Among other things, the app allows users to easily interact with Gareth on Twitter and Facebook.
The digital revolution is well underway and globally South Africa has one of the highest percentages of users accessing the Internet via mobile phone, with Apple continuing to entrench its position as a trend leader. Gareth Cliff, 5FM breakfast show presenter and M-Net Idols judge, is proud to launch the first South African‚personality’‚ application – an interactive and content-driven iTunes application.
According to Cliff, ‚More than ever before, the way people access information and entertainment is changing with new technology, new perceptions of value and, of course, new media. I’m delighted to be able to offer my audience additional content in a fresh, cool way‚
Gareth’s rise in the media world has been progressive – from Tuks FM to his debut on 702 ten years ago: to significantly increasing audiences on the 5FM breakfast show: his hard-hitting website blogs as well as leading the social media field with some 500 000 followers. ‚This initiative is the next step for Gareth in the convergence of media, content and technology, and is presented in an accessible and engaging format‚ says Rina Broomberg, Cliff’s manager and business partner in One on One Productions.
The App is free to download and features a unique alarm clock with a variety of Cliff wake-up calls along with the day’s weather from your location. A daily feature is Gareth’s video blog chronicling the issues of the day in his characteristically irreverent yet entertaining and intelligent way, as well as integrating his Twitter and Facebook communities.
“With a total of 15 billion app downloads and a selection of over 465 thousand apps, the iTunes App Store has started an app phenomenon worldwide. Locally, we are thrilled with the interest in apps and app development and encourage developers to create South African content. The launch of the Gareth Cliff app, is a great addition to locally relevant apps for South Africans,”” said RJ van Spaandonk, Executive Director of Core Group.
The Gareth Cliff App is available from the App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch with the iPad App launch coming next month. Here’s to the future of media!
