Johnny English DVD Review

The Story:

The British Crown Jewels have gone missing: all the British spies are dead, and it’s up to Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) to save the day. With the help of his sidekick, Bough (Ben Miller), Johnny teams up with Lorna Campbell (Natalie Imbruglia) as they go on the hunt for the mysterious disappearance. Their prime suspect is a sleazy French entrepreneur who goes by the name of Pascal Sauvage (John Malkovich). However, proving that he took the jewels is easier said than done.

What we thought:

To be perfectly honest, the movie just didn’t live up to our expectations. We were quite disappointed by the shallow story and generally felt that watching the movie was more of a chore than for entertainment purposes. The comical aspect we’ve come to expect from Rowan Atkinson in the Bean series just wasn’t there: in fact, we thought the funniest actor was Pascal Sauvage with his eccentric French accent. Playing a British Spy is just not one of Rowan’s fortes.

Johnny English’s Aston Martin.

Worst Part of the movie:

Watching Johnny English in a short marshal arts sequence against Lorna Campbell.
