Vodacom brings Deezer music subscription service to SA

Vodacom recently signed an exclusive partnership with Deezer, a music streaming service with over 35-million songs.

Vodacom has agreed an exclusive partnership with leading music streaming service Deezer. With 35 million songs to choose from, Deezer has the largest digital music library available in South Africa. To celebrate the launch of this new service Vodacom will be giving its 17 million active data customers one month’s free subscription to the full Premium+ service.

With Deezer’s mix of local and international artists we’re changing the way that South Africans experience music. The real benefit behind the Deezer service is its ease of use. By simply registering and downloading the Deezer app, one has immediate access to South Africa’s largest digital music library. Importantly, music can be streamed over multiple devices – no more side loading or fiddling around with album covers,” said Phil Patel, Vodacom’s Chief Commercial Officer.

To take up the one month free Premium+ subscription all Vodacom customers need to do is access http://live.vodafone.com/deezer and register for the service (details are set out below). From there it’s as easy as downloading the app and logging in. Normal data charges will apply. The one month free offer is available from 9 October.

It’s a big move to give millions of customers free access, but music streaming has yet to take off in South Africa the same way it has in other countries. We think that once people see how easy and convenient music streaming is with Deezer, that they won’t look back,” said Patel.

Once the free subscription is completed, the service will then be billed at R59.99 per month, or customers can choose to cancel the service at no cost. Contract customers will be billed directly to their Vodacom accounts. Prepaid users will need to top up with the equivalent amount of airtime.

For less than the price of a single CD per month, you’ll be able to access to 35 million tracks whenever and wherever you want. By sharing playlists and favourite artists with friends, it’s simple to find music that you’ll love and easy to keep up with the latest artists. On top of this, with Deezer’s offline mode all synced music can be played even if there is no data connection.

Worldwide, the trend is moving away from ownership towards access. With Deezer, we’re bringing one of the best music services globally to South Africa and I’m convinced this will change the way we enjoy music” said Patel.

In the near future Deezer will be included as a value added service in some Vodacom packages as well being bundled with data.

Speaking on the partnership Deezer’s Chief Business Development Officer, Cl√©ment Cezard had this to say:

We are delighted to partner with Vodacom in what is arguably one of the most exciting music markets in mobile usage. By offering our Deezer app to the millions of Vodacom customers in South Africa, they will be able to enjoy local and international music – all at a touch of a button.
