Something on the Side: A faceless watch

In his latest round-up, SEAN BACHER looks at the Armour LED watch that has no face, Logitech’s G700s gaming mouse, a 27‚” P-Line monitor from Philips, the very fast and very, very expensive 256GB SanDisk Extreme Pro Compact Flash memory card and the brightly coloured Nokia Coloud Boom headset.

Armour LED watch

This watch has no face. Instead, it uses LEDs that are concealed in between the bracelet’s links. A quick tap of the bracelet reveals two strips of LEDs, the first strip indicating hours and the second minutes. Double tap the bracelet to reveal the date and tap it three times to see the seconds tick down. The Armour LED watch is finished in a glossy gun-metal and users can choose between red, blue and white LEDs.

Logitech G700s rechargeable gaming mouse

The Logitech G700s mouse boasts 15 programmable buttons and a scroll wheel. The device uses one AA battery and its charge is indicated by the LEDs on the left of the mouse. The top of the G700s has a hydrophobic palm surface, which is designed to keep users’ hands dry when using the mouse for long periods. It pairs with a computer via Bluetooth a dongle is included that plugs into a USB port. Although it does work with Mac, software that lets users customise the buttons is only available for PC.

Philips 27-inch P-Line monitor

One of the latest monitors from Philips is the 27‚” P-Line. The monitor uses Philips’ AMVA LCD technology, which uses a LED backlight. This offers users a high contrast ratio and a much wider viewing angle. According to Philips, the PowerSensor feature will save up to 80% on energy costs. A camera and microphone is built into the monitor, making it ideal for video conferencing.

256GB SanDisk Extreme Pro Compact Flash

The 256GB SanDisk Extreme Pro Compact Flash is the world’s first high-capacity, high-performance compact flash card. The card will deliver a maximum write speed of 140MB/s and is optimised to capture 4K and full HD video. Further, the card will offer a maximum read speed of 160MB/s. Not only is it fast, but also durable. A silicone coating protects the insides, and the card is said to be able to operate in extreme temperatures. Users can download RescuePRO media recovery software, which will recover any videos or photos that are accidentally deleted from the flash card.

Expect to pay: R10 000. The card is currently only available online: shipping fees are excluded.

Nokia Coloud Boom headset

The Nokia Coloud Boom headset is all about coverage. The headset’s closed-ear design gives users complete silence from surrounding noises. The large ear pads fit comfortably, while the padded frame sits perfectly over a listener’s head or around the neck when taking a break. The Coloud Boom headsets are currently available in yellow, bright red or cyan and will work with all Nokia Lumia smartphones and selected Nokia Asha devices.
