Despite smartphone shipments in South Africa during the first quarter, Huawei has managed to improve its sales of its flagship P-series devices.
In contrast to the latest figures released by the International Data Corporation (IDC) that indicate a 13.6% decline in smartphone shipments in South Africa for Q1 2017, Huawei has recorded an improvement in the sales of its flagship P-series devices. The first month of sales of the P10 and P10 Plus have seen a 68% increase as compared to that of the P9. The devices seem to be most popular in Gauteng, with more units sold in this province.
“We have seen four times the increase in performance of our P10 as compared to the same period last year with the P9. We feel this is due to increasing consumer confidence in the Huawei brand and premium product segment,” said Zhao Likun, GM Huawei Consumer Business Group South Africa.
The P10 and P10 Plus build on the success of the P9. Huawei P9 and P9 Plus global shipments exceeded 10 million units, making them the first Huawei flagship handsets to break 10 million sales.
The P10 and P10 Plus come with enhanced features including the improved Leica front-facing camera that sets a new standard for modern portrait photography. Recognising the creative eye in every user, the new camera features enable artistic portraits in Leica image style. The intention is to bring out the pure and natural beauty of people rather than to artificially edit and beautify the images. Huawei also partnered with GoPro so that users can shoot amazing videos without installing any additional apps on the device.
“A brief review of the history of photography reveals that all the photos with real impact are about people, particularly everyday people against the backdrop of a fast-changing world, because we can resonate with their feelings and experiences. With the help of modern technology, capturing and passing around these touching moments has never been so easy. Huawei P10 and P10 Plus provide users with an effortless way to create timeless portraits. We encourage our consumers to create something truly meaningful and amazing with our products,” says Likun.
The Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus are available from all operator channels at a recommended retail price of R12 999 for the P10 and R13 999 for the P10 Plus. The devices come with the Huawei Diamond Service offering that includes two free screen damage repairs, and a free collection and delivery service with dedicated VIP contact centre support.
