MultiChoice scoops two more HD channels

In late December of 2009, MultiChoice added two HD channels to it already existing and sole HD channel. And not a moment too soon, as the feeling I got from subscribers who went out and bought MultiChoice’s HD personal video recorder (PVR) were a little peeved with the very, very limited HD choice. Myself included.

On December 21st , MultiChoice made Discovery HD available to its HD PVR customers, it is available on channel 172. According to MultiChoice, the channel is the only global high definition television brand offering the very best factual entertainment, selected from various Discovery channels as well as exclusive content that can only be seen on Discovery HD.

Offering surround sound and high-definition imagery, the channel covers a variety of programmes including science, technology, people, places and natural history. Like the other HD channel, this channel will be available to Premium bouquet subscribers that have PVR decoders that are HD capable. MultiChoice launched a PVR decoder that is HD capable in 2008.

Last year, MultiChoice also announced the launch of SuperSport HD on its DStv platform. The addition of Discovery HD brings the number of HD channels on DStv to three, personally, and I don’t think I am alone on this one, I hope they launch a few more.

‚This latest addition demonstrates our commitment to growing our HD offering on DStv. Our Premium subscribers will now enjoy a wider scope of HD content, covering sport, documentary and general entertainment from the three HD channels‚ says Nico Meyer, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa.
