AppDate: Earn Bitcoin interest with Luno wallet

Luno’s saving wallet

Luno users can now earn up to 4% interest per annum on their Bitcoin holdings through the recently launched Luno savings wallet. The offering allows Luno customers with Bitcoin to earn passive income on their balance with little effort and no penalties. However, investors should note the warnings regarding risk.

A high percentage of South Africans who own cryptocurrency do so for speculative investment purposes, with the majority holding their Bitcoin for the long term (or HODLing in crypto-speak). “Less than 5% of Luno’s South African customers plan to sell their Bitcoin in the next six months, in fact most plan to buy more, so the savings wallet means they can earn interest by simply doing what they were planning to with their Bitcoin,” sayss Marius Reitz, Luno’s GM for Africa.

Bitcoin has outperformed all major stock market indices (and gold) in 2020.

Secure year-end payments with Karri

The Karri app, powered by Nedbank, is now providing more than 1,000 schools across the country with technology to ensure fast, secure payments during year-end fundraisers.

Rather than collecting cash, schools can now create a variable donation style collection, allowing parents to donate however much they want to the cause.

The Karri system allows schools to create collections online within minutes. Parents then simply download the Karri app for free, create a profile and make the payment, removing the need for the child to be responsible for cash and putting the school at risk of theft. Plus, limiting contact between people, making the solution COVID-19 compliant.

Platform: Android and iOS

Expect to pay: A free download

Apocalypse Survival Training

Apocalypse Survival Training is designed to combine storytelling into a ‘bootcamp’ exercise routine to keep users fit and safe though social distancing.

It does this through an audio fitness adventure with a storyline, set in an alien invasion of London in an alternative reality, where the lives of city’s survivors are in your hands. The audio production includes a full cast, composition and great sound effects.

The story unfolds over three workout types, giving users the skills needed to survive each stage of the apocalypse. There are also rewards to be earned, such as nuggets of top-secret intel, which are revealed as one completes each episode. The unlocked intel, progress and run logs are stored in the ‘Talon’ section of the app.

The three workout types are Speed (running), Strength (body-weight circuits) and Control (stretch and core). The training programmes have been written by experts, and each exercise is fully instructed by characters.

There are options for both new and experienced fitness fans, to cater for a variety of different fitness levels and abilities. Before hand, can also view the exercises from each episode before you hit play.

Platform: Android and iOS

Expect to pay: Two free trial episodes are available on download. To continue and level-up, additional episodes cost R20 each. The full package goes for R170.
