After the success of the first South Africa PyConZA national gathering of developers of the Python programming language in 2012, PyconZA is back and taking place in Cape Town from 3 – 4 October.
Taking place in Cape Town from 3 – 4 October 2013, PyConZA gives the local Python developer community an opportunity to engage with each other, gain knowledge and share experiences. PyConZA is being organised by the Python community for the community and is supported once again by the Praekelt Foundation. PyConZA follows on from numerous PyCon events that take place annually around the world.
Presenters for PyConZA 2013 include Larry Hastings (Python 3.4 release manager), Armin Rigo (core PyPy developer), Stefano Rivera (Debian maintainer for numerous Python packages), Stefan van der Walt (SciPy contributor and Proceedings Co-chair for SciPy 2013), Neil Muller (CTPUG chairman), Goddy Akpojotor (organizer of the Python African Tour) and Simon de Haan (Chief Engineer at Praekelt Foundation).
The conference will provide potent insight into how people are working with Python in Africa. Key topics for this year are Python bytecode, an introduction to software transactional memory, packaging Python projects for Debian, scientific imaging, Kivy (Python GUI for Android and IPhone), Python African Tour and using Python to make a difference to the world at large.
The venue for PyConZA 2013 is Belmont Square in Belmont Road, Cape Town. The new venue is able to accommodate even more participants this year. Registration can be done via the za.pycon.org website and costs R1375 for corporates, R900 for individuals and R385 for students. The conference booking includes parking, morning coffee on arrival, mid morning coffee and snacks, lunch and an afternoon refreshment break over the two-day conference.
Don’t miss out on being part of the largest Python gathering in South Africa for the community using and developing the open-source Python programming language. Book your place now.
Like the software itself, PyConZA 2013 also relies on volunteers from the Python community, so if you’d like to be involved contact team@za.pycon.org
