IT companies partner to create The Legends Soccer Team

Lenovo and Intel have partnered with Active Education and Let’s Play. The idea is to establish The Legends Soccer Team. The idea of the initiative is to give scholars the opportunity to use their creativity to draw and paint using sport and technology as inspiration.
Lenovo together with Intel, have partnered with Active Education and Let’s Play, SuperSport’s Social Responsibility initiative, to establish The Legends Soccer Team. A sustainable physical education programme sanctioned by the Department of Education will also be run in the Southern Suburbs, Eldorado Park and Soweto areas.

This initiative, driven by Lenovo, draws on the synergy between art, sport and technology by encouraging learners to use their creativity to draw and paint while using sport and technology as inspiration to showcase what these concepts mean to them.

Each class from the selected schools received a piece of canvas on which selected learners created their own masterpiece based on the theme “How technology and sport will benefit my future.” All ten canvases will be judged by a panel made up of Lenovo executives and members of the press, and two winning schools will be selected. These two schools will be provided with a coach to run physical education as well as soccer training for their school teams. Six teachers from each school will also receive Life Orientation training from Active Education. This involves the role of the coach, court safety and tips for working with younger children, conducting a coaching session, practical and effective coaching and preparation before a class, demonstration, communication and non-verbal communication, amongst other course topics.

Whilst at the schools, Active Education’s talent identification and development team will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all Grade Seven male learners, in order to evaluate their strength, power, speed, agility, as well as soccer skill ability. The objective of the testing is to recruit The Legends Team made up of members that show great soccer skill, enthusiasm and potential.

“We believe our partnership with Active Education has enabled us to give children and their schools an opportunity they otherwise may never have had. We hope to give back to the communities through an innovative and engaging manner that will bring these children closer to their soccer dreams. We want to change lives and help communities reach their potential by supporting them through our initiative,” says Monique de Klerk, marketing manager for Lenovo South Africa.
