Surface coming to SA – soon

At the Microsoft TechEd conference currently underway in Durban, it was announced that the Surface tablet will be coming to South Africa soon, reports SEAN BACHER.

At this year’s Microsoft TechEd conference currently underway in Durban, Microsoft announced that its tablet – the Microsoft Surface will be available in South Africa soon.

Speaking at a session on consumerisation, Colin Erasmus, head of Microsoft SA’s Windows business remained tight lipped about pricing and the specifications of the tablet, but did say that the tablet will his South African shores within the next few months.

Erasmus said the Microsoft Surface tablet will be available in both Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 RT (run time) versions, the RT version running an ARM processor, meaning many older Windows apps will be unable to tun on it. The Windows 8 Pro version will use an Intel processor.

The Surface tablet, was originally announced in Las Angeles in June last year and is Microsoft’s competition to the Apple iPad. It will feature a 10.6″ screen and will be available in wither 34 or 64GB configurations.
