Sony launches thinner, lighter PS3

The new version of the Sony PlayStation 3 console – sleeker, thinner and lighter – arrives in South Africa next week, with two storage options.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has launched a thinner and lighter version of the PlayStation 3 (PS3) console, and will release it in South Africa next week.

With several storage options, Sony says it “provides the flexibility to tailor your gaming experience to suit your storage needs””.

To accompany the launch, PlayStation is also extending its Essentials range of games, delivering a huge catalogue of the best PlayStation games at the most affordable price yet.

“”Now gamers will have the opportunity to build up their collection with the games they’ve always wanted, but missed out on,”” Sony announced. “”Now newcomers to PS3 can check out a varied collection of instant classics, without breaking the bank. With a wide range of must-have games available, from Assassins Creed: Brotherhood to Sports Champions, there is truly something for everyone.””

The new PS3 comes with either a huge 500GB of storage or a more affordable 12GB version. The 500GB new PS3 console has launched as a bundle for R 3,999.99 with the 12GB priced at R 2,899.99 standalone, and owners of the 12GB model can connect a 2.5 inch SATA internal hard drive with use of an official Mounting Bracket, or opt for purchase of an official PlayStation 250GB internal HDD. So whether you’re after instant access to memorable, fun-packed evenings with the family, or want to load up your system with tons of fantastic entertainment, there’s a PS3 to suit all needs.

The PS3 Essentials are available at retail for R 199, 99, with many titles available to purchase from PlayStation Store. Gamers will have access to instant classics like Tomb Raider Underworld, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and God of War III. Meanwhile, families can take advantage of the fun-for-all-ages titles like LittleBigPlanet, Rachet and Clank: Tools of Destruction and EyePet & Friends.
