School is out! The Cape Town Science Centre (CTSC) has once again put together a remarkable Summer Science holiday programme which will give parents a chance to play science with their young ones through an assortment of workshops and activities. The young

scientists will be encouraged to touch, push and wind up the hundreds of exhibits that were built exactly for that purpose. This fun educational entertainment will challenge the young scientists to explore, discover and learn through play.

“Summer is a well-deserved time for fun and relaxation after a hard year of school work. However, studies have shown that children tend to experience a ‘summer slide’ where the knowledge and skills gained in the previous school year are lost by the time the next one comes around,” comments Nadine Nortier the Senior Science Communicator at CTSC. “Our aim is not to keep children in doors studying all summer, but we do want to keep them stimulated and thinking.”

The programme is filled with an opportunity to really explore science in all its hands-on, fun, messy, and wondrous nature without the burden of needing to know the ‘right’ answer. Join in as we explore the exciting scientific principles behind growing gummy bears using various solutions, hands on discovery of the science behind photography, designing and building your own kite and much more.

“CTSC will also run coding workshops using the Google First platform as it is our mission to prepare our youth for the digital era. As we believe in collaboration, one of our partners, Digicape will also lead SWIFT playground workshops which will help participants to build their own applications.” added Julie Cleverdon, the Director of the Cape Town Science Centre. “Our programme is designed to inspire and engage the whole family in a safe and accessible environment. We encourage our visitors to explore and experience science in an innovative and interactive way.”

Visitors can also look forward to receiving a six month complimentary Popular Mechanics magazine digital subscription when they visit the Centre. Bring your whole family and join in the culture of curiosity.
