Games, magazines meet on Smart TV

OnMag Online Publications and Samsung have launched onTV, the first television application of its kind in Africa that brings together magazines, news, weather, games and movie information and trailers on the Samsung Smart TV range.

The onTV app is available free of charge on the Samsung TV App store and through the SmartHub available on Samsung Smart TVs, which can be accessed via an active broadband connection.

Being able to feed content direct through to an IP enabled Television, like the Samsung Smart TV range, opened up a world of new opportunities in publishing, advertising and entertainment.

Branden Hart, Head of New Business Development said: “Advertisers who were part of the closed Beta were blown away with the quality of the adverts on a big screen, and the possibilities of now incorporating streaming video into an advert.

The most exciting part of this truly South African development is the ability to stream video content direct to the Samsung Smart TV, without the need for proprietary Set Top Boxes used by VOD service providers.

The app has five key sections to choose from including: Magazine, Movies, Daily News, AllCanPlay, and Weather. Each section offers users a variety of content that includes a SAPA news feed, providing updates on the latest local, international, business, technology, sport, and entertainment stories around the clock.

There are five magazines covering subjects such as motoring, technology, architecture, sports and real estate. In the movies section, users will find the release dates and previews of upcoming cinema releases and a selection of the current month’s DSTV premiers and other featured titles.

AllCanPlay offers previews and information on major upcoming game titles for children, hardcore, and casual game players. The weather section has regular updates on current conditions and seven-day forecasts for some of the major centres in South Africa.

onMag is an online publication company that, apart from the Smart TV app, publishes Magazines in a web app console environment for the iPad and Samsung Galaxy devices to a select group of high-income individuals.

The onMag console includes social networking and client interaction systems which present themselves in the form of portals that are used by private companies, banks and estates to maximize interaction with their clients, customers and homeowners.

The onMag console and publications provide advertisers with the latest in advertising platforms, which allows them to combine stunning visuals and interactivity with real-time stats to provide an unprecedented advertising experience to a targeted, high-income clientele.
