Fortnite returns with a bang

Fortnite has returned for a second chapter, after dramatically closing the game for major updates to the game, with all gameplay being sucked into an online black hole. It seems like Epic Games has revamped the gameplay of the battle royale game, which now includes a new map, updated skins, new locations, and the ability to swim.

The online game was closed for nearly a day while Epic Games upgraded its services. When players logged on, they were greeted with a spinning black hole, which signalled the massive update. Now, the black hole has closed and the second chapter can begin. From analysing the trailer video, we have been able to outline what will excite players for the new season of Fortnite.

The map has changed significantly

One of the biggest changes in this new chapter of Fortnite is the map update. Players have 13 new locations to explore on the map, one of which looks like a radioactive plant. This map update will be welcomed by players who felt the previous map was getting a bit old – it had been around since 2017 in its current form. This also allows those with legitimate gaming skill to stand out from those who have learned good hiding places from which to snipe.

Water is no longer a problem

In this update, water does not slow players down, because they can now swim. Players can now also fish, drive a gun-modded boat, and probably do far more than the trailer has shown us.

A better chance of survival

Getting shot down in the middle of a battle is extremely frustrating, not only for the victim but for the ones who have to put themselves in harm’s way to revive the victims. Now, players will be able to carry injured players to another location to revive their teammates when they’re out of the line of fire.

Stealthier places to hide

Hiding in a bush is so last week. In the new chapter 2 update, players can now hide in haystacks and dumpsters to have a better chance of hiding from enemies. But be careful: enemies can also slip explosives into these hiding places by being just as stealthy.

Less weapons, more customisations

It seems Epic Games has noticed the weapons fatigue that players are having with brand new weapons. Players can now upgrade weapons with which they’re familiar to give them a unique feel, while remaining uncomplicated.

Overall, we’re excited about where Fortnite is going with chapter 2, especially after Epic shutting down chapter 1 to make way for the new.
