To celebrate the start of the 2015/16 season, The English Premier League is launching Twitter emojis. Fans will have a new way to show support for their club over the course of the campaign through the inclusion of these special emojis in Tweets.
Emojis will show up when any user Tweets using specific dedicated hashtags during the opening weekend. The feature will be live until midnight on Monday, but will be returning at various key moments throughout the season (such as #DeadlineDay and the final run-in).
The hashtags that fans on Twitter need to use to generate emojis and join the conversation are:
* Official club hashtags will trigger an emoji of the club crest (e.g #CFC for Chelsea or #SWANS for Swansea)
* Official match hashtags for this weekend will trigger the club crests alongside one another (e.g #SWANSCFC)
* The hashtags #BPL and #BPLKickoff will trigger a scaled down Premier League trophy, while #FPL will trigger the Premier League crest.
The teams with the most followers identifying themselves on Twitter are Arsenal (#Arsenal) and Chelsea.
The 2015/16 season begins with 63% of all Premier League players active on Twitter.
Tottenham have 92% of their first team squad on Twitter, the highest amongst all 20 clubs. They are followed by Manchester City who boast 75% and then North London rivals Arsenal who are at 73%. Leicester City round off the top four with an impressive 70%.
