Opera will provide its software development kit for new Smart TV processors designed for multimedia and Web access.
Opera Software and Sigma Designs, a provider of System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for home entertainment, connectivity and converging multimedia delivery, announced at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week that the Opera Devices SDK will be incorporated into Sigma Designs’ Smart TV processors.
Opera partnered with Sigma in 2013 to demonstrate Opera’s TV web products for Sigma Designs’ Smart TV processors. Now, by licensing the TV technology powered by Opera’s SDK, Sigma offers TV and device manufacturers web solutions that can be easily integrated into their products, bringing end users a great web experience and highly entertaining web services.
‚”By licensing the Opera Devices SDK, Sigma will be able to meet the complex needs of TV manufacturers, who want to design different engaging web options easily,‚” says Aneesh Rajaram, Senior Vice-President for TV & Devices, Opera Software. ‚”We are looking forward to seeing the first results of our cooperation, which will satisfy content-hungry viewers, who are looking for a premium Smart TV experience.‚”
“Sigma chose to partner with Opera to enable HTML5 software services on our UXL and SX6 series Smart TV processors,‚”” says Mustafa Ozgen, vice president and general manager Home Multimedia for Sigma Designs. ‚””With our close development cooperation with Opera, we were able to pre-integrate the Opera SDK and the needed DRM, smooth streaming and other web services to our platforms. This will help our customers to reduce their time to market and save research and development costs.””
The Opera Devices SDK powers the web experience on tens of millions of devices made by over 50 customers, including Sony, Samsung, TiVo, Humax, Arris, Cisco, Amino, TCL, Sharp, Vestel and Altech. Opera Software’s web products for Smart TV devices also include the Opera TV Store app platform and the Opera TV browser.
