FNB and Cell C today announced that FNB cellphone banking customers are able to buy Cell C SMS and data bundles on the channel.
Until now, the only Cell C product that was offered was prepaid airtime. FNB is the first and currently the only bank to enter into a partnership with Cell C to enable its customers to purchase SMS and Data Bundles.
Shadrack Palmer CCO, of FNB Cellphone Banking says, ‚”This is an opportunity for us to increase our product and service offering to meet the needs of all our customers, especially on products that are currently in demand in the market. It is also an opportunity for us to attract new customers.‚”
According to The Mobile Consumer in SA 2012 Report, conducted by World Wide Worx and which was released in July 2012, the spending on Data has grown by 50% since 2010. The report further indicates that 11% of consumers of data purchase prepaid data bundles with 15% of them being on contract. South Africa still remains one of the fastest growing mobile communications markets in the world with just over 12 million active data users, and the number is set to increase.
Karin Fourie, Cell C’s Executive Head of Communications says, ‚”Our aim is to leverage on the current growth in the data market and to form partnerships with relevant industry players to help us address the needs of our customers. Our data and SMS bundles are the most competitive in the market and we are confident that our customers as well as FNB customers will benefit greatly.‚”
FNB customers are able to purchase these Cell C SMS and Data bundles using FNB Cellphone Banking as well as Cellphone Banking customers with access to the FNB APP. These customers can also make payment using their eBucks.
The offering will also be rolled out to the FNB Facebook APP under the ‚”Top Me Up‚” functionality at a later stage. The daily limit for airtime and data bundle purchases through the Facebook App is currently R60.
