Asus takes third place in global tablet sales

Asus has moved into the third position in the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker, passing Amazon.

Asus showed the strongest year-on-year growth in tablet shipments, at 350% after shipping 2.7 million units in the first quarter.

According to the IDC, the move into the number three vendor spot was likely as a result of the decent tablet shipment demand from the highly marketed Asus Nexus 7 device. Android remains the preferred Tablet operating system, with 56.5% market share and 27.8 million units shipped in the first quarter of 2013.

‚”We are very excited about taking the number three vendor spot,‚” says Jeff Kuo Country Manager at Asus South Africa. ‚”We have seen a major shift towards the use of more mobile devices, particularly on the African continent as more organisations relook their strategies around bring your own device and as the transition towards a mobile workforce continue. The IDC results further support that this is the case.‚” Mr Kuo adds that it is exciting to see increased competition in the tablet space. ‚”This ensures that the consumer has a lot more choice when it comes to devices and that they can purchase these based on their personal needs, rather than just based on what is available,‚” Jeff Kuo concludes.
