Samsung Electronics South Africa today announced the availability of the Angry Birds App for Samsung Smart TV – and the ability to control the game with waves of the hand.
Developed by Rovio Entertainment, a Finnish entertainment media company, Angry Birds is one of the top smartphone apps worldwide.
The game’s fun and colourful characters and engaging game play have made it beloved by fans around the world. Since its launch in November 2009, Angry Birds has been downloaded more than 1 billion times, across multiple platforms and all versions of the game. Utilising Samsung’s Motion Control technology, consumers can now play Angry Birds on the large TV screen for the first time ever, and enjoy a maximised, immersive and interactive gaming experience. With just the wave of the hand, fans can control game play features including: initiating the slingshot and activating the unique skills of each bird.
‚”Samsung Smart TV will become the first TV to offer the world’s most popular game and set a new standard in the industry by offering a game for smart TVs controlled by hand gestures,‚” says Justin Shaw, Business Leader for Visual Display at Samsung Electronics South Africa. ‚”Samsung will continue to develop content that brings family members together in front of the TV – allowing consumers to enjoy new experiences via Samsung Smart TVs.‚”
Being the first Smart TV game developed to work with Motion Control, Samsung has worked closely with Rovio over the past year to apply its advanced technology to the Angry Birds app for Samsung Smart TVs. Launching worldwide in July, the Angry Birds App for Samsung Smart TV will be available on Samsung 2012 Smart Interaction enabled models through the Samsung Apps TV store – by updating the latest firmware.
‚”This evolution of the gaming and application technology is just another way Samsung is bringing innovation to the forefront of consumer technology by ensuring the availability of technologies across platforms and providing consumers with an enriched entertainment experience,‚” continues Shaw. ‚”To this end, Samsung will continue to offer such applications and much more. In fact, the company plans to offer Video-on-Demand Angry Birds animations developed by Rovio in the near future. The animations will be available first on Samsung Smart TVs and is available to the South African market immediately,‚” concludes Shaw.
