Dogs definitely allowed

Dog cushions are not a common business expense . . . unless you happen to be part of the Dimension Data team responsible for managing the Standard Bank call centre technology.

These call centres are manned by many visually impaired agents who bring their highly trained guide dogs to work with them. It must be a long shift for these devoted working dogs who bring so much independence, companionship and joy to their owners’ lives ‚ but now, thanks to the Dimension Data technology team on site at Standard Bank’s Johannesburg and Pretoria call centres, these guide dogs spend their shifts at the call centres curled up in comfort on cushions under their human companions’ desks.

‚The dogs are such an essential part of their owner’s lives and work that we felt it was important to make their job easier by ensuring that the time that they spend at the call centre is more comfortable,‚ says Dimension Data global account director for the Standard Bank group, Bryan Pomeroy. ‚After all, call centre agents have demanding jobs and it is important to create an environment that is conducive to top quality performance. For visually impaired agents, a pleasant environment is one that acknowledges the importance of their guide dogs. So, the cushions help both the dogs and the agents.‚

Call centre agent Maryna Rheeder said at the handover of the cushions that her dog Dory is her eyes: ‚She’s my independence. No human being could ever be so loyal and willing to help. I trust her with my life.‚

Dan Naidoo said that his dog is his most important companion ‚ ‚a brother, a son, a friend, all rolled into one. The relationship I have with him is one n visually able person will ever experience.‚

We are privileged to be able to help these agents and their guide dogs, and proud to demonstrate again the Dimension Data difference ‚ taking our work beyond technology and beyond contracts to the heart of the human experience.
