Apple TV arrives in SA

The Apple TV streaming device for connecting Internet content to digital TV sets is available in South Africa from 18 January, in the wake of strong demand by customers at online stores.

One of the best-selling items in South African online electronics stores during the festive season, the Apple TV, officially arrives in stories this week. It was one of the few Apple products not available through formal channels in this country. As a result, potential customers used online stores that aggregate South Africans’ purchases of products that are available only outside the country.

The increasing popularity of Apple TV through these channels led to the official Apple reseller in South Africa, the Core Group, finally negotiating distribution through its retail stores.

In announcing Recommended Retail Pricing, the Core Group added: “Apple TV makes it easy to enjoy iTunes video, music and photo libraries from your computer right on your HD TV‚Äîand with iCloud you can instantly enjoy content that was purchased on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch as well. iTunes Match customers can now play their entire music library from iCloud‚Äîeven songs they’ve imported from CDs. Users can also control Apple TV with their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch using the Remote app, available as a free download on the App Store.””

The device will be available for R1099 at Apple Premium Resellers – iStore and Digitcape – and selected Apple Authorised Retailers from Friday, 18 January 2013. Authorised Retailers include Incredible Connection, Dion Wired, Makro and Hi-Fi Corporatio.

“”Resellers are responsible for determining their own prices for the resale of products,”” Core announced. “”Although Core Group may suggest retail prices, these are suggestions only and resellers are entirely free to determine the actual prices at which products will be sold.””
